“These stones”

Deliverance always deserves a testimony, a space, and time to be told to others.

Joshua 4:7

Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off: and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the children of Israel for ever.

The enemy comes after us; his mission is to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10). But the Word of God says that no weapon that is formed against me shall prosper…this is the heritage of the servants of the Lord (Isaiah 54:17). When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard (Isaiah 59:19). And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord has not forsaken them that seek thee (Psalm 9:10)

Several years ago I was involved in a motor vehicle accident and was hit by an eighteen-wheeler. My youngest daughter and my then nine-month-old granddaughter were also in the vehicle. The car was totaled; I was rescued with the jaws of life and taken to one of the Houston area trauma center hospitals. My neck was hurting, and honestly, I was afraid to move until I knew there was no damage to my spinal cord. I told God I did not want to be paralyzed, and I trusted Him to make everything ok. I walked out of that hospital that day. Even the insurance adjuster, and the people at the auto salvage yard, could barely believe that anyone survived the wreckage of the vehicle, or certainly not be in good health if they did. My testimony is that the weapon was formed, but it did not prosper!

Recently, I was in another country. There was an issue with the knob on the back door of the apartment that I was staying in. I reported it to the office manager, and a few days later, a worker came and replaced the doorknob. Such a banging of metal on metal I had never heard during the change out of a doorknob. I have even replaced doorknobs myself and have not experienced this noise. But I endured it, and eventually the work was completed. Later that night, I went to bed. At about three o'clock in the morning, I was awakened to the same banging metal sound, but louder. I became wide awake and tried to understand why I was hearing such a noise. I knew no one was working or even moving around in the apartment. I had decided to take some biblical courses, and I had stayed up very late studying. I was very tired and very sleepy. I did not get out of bed. said to myself: I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep… I began to drift back off to sleep.

Before I could fall asleep, though, I began to feel something crawling on my neck, right over the jugular vein area. I grabbed it and threw it across the room. When I finally had the light on and saw it. It was a scorpion. I stomped it and said, " there you go devil!" The metal-on-metal noise that I heard was not physical. The Holy Spirit caused me to hear that noise in my sleep, caused me to wake up, had me grab and throw that scorpion before it could sting me, and to kill it. So, now I had another testimony, proof that weapons are formed, but do not prosper.

My flesh is no match for Satan and his ploys. But the Word of God tells me that when the enemy comes, the Spirit of the Lord lifts up a standard. I need God as my defense because the battle originates in the spiritual realm, although it is manifested in the natural realm. Thank God for the Holy Spirit, my protector! To God be all the glory! These stones, these two encounters, are memorials, testimonies of the faithfulness of God!
